Historical Overview

Bromley College of Further & Higher Education is a U.K. government funded college which has been offering courses to students at its main site for over 50 years.

In the mid 1980's GEC Marconi Avionics used to recruit graduates in numerate disciplines and found they required retraining before they were really useful to the company. We provided a six-month retraining course in Real-time Applications for these graduates. From this was born the HND in Engineering (Software Engineering), which was designed to produce diplomates who would be useful to industry from day 1, without requiring extensive retraining.

The HND in Engineering (Software Engineering) was replaced by the HNC/D in Computer Systems Engineering in the mid 1990's. In the late 2000's the HND in Computer Systems Engineering was itself replaced by Foundation Degrees in Network Computing and Software Development. The FdEng programmes were reviewed and brought up to date in February 2014.

The FdSc in Digital Media Technologies was introduced in 2010 to further expand our portfolio of HE programmes. The programme was reviewed and brought up to date in December 2012. In September 2015 it was superseded by the FdSc in Creative Computing and a games development option added.
